José María Piera
Born in Barcelona in 1961; married, with three children. Studied law at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Began his professional life at the age of eighteen, as a salesman of fine arts articles at Talens España, rising to the position of commercial director for Catalonia. In 1980 he moved to Slogan SA Publicidad, starting as an account executive and ending up as a partner and member of the Board of Directors.
In 1986 he was appointed to the executive board of RCD Espanyol, the youngest executive of a first-division soccer club in Spain at the time. In 1989 he moved to Madrid, opening an office of the agency there and serving as general director. In its first year, Slogan Madrid was awarded first prize at the Festival de Cine Publicitario in Madrid for a commercial for the Fundación ONCE. José María returned to Barcelona in 1991 to become a founding partner of Casadevall Pedreño PRG, where he served first as general director and later as a member of the board and executive creative director of the Madrid office. While he was there, the agency was named the International Agency of the Year by the magazine Advertising Age and won, among many other awards, the world’s most prestigious: the Grand Prix of the Festival de Cine Publicitario de San Sebastián, with a commercial for Galerías Preciados. Under his guidance, the agency began to expand internationally, working for clients such as The Coca-Cola Company, Macy’s, and Swatch. In 1994, The Coca-Cola Company made him a founding members of its Agency Steering Committee, and in 1999 he became the only advertising executive on the list of “Twenty Spaniards for the Twenty-First Century” of the newspaper El País.
After a sabbatical year, during which he took on only two projects (one for Adidas International, a global campaign with Bob Marley, and another for the relaunch of the new programming on Tele 5 with Angels Barceló and Juan Ramón Lucas), he founded, in collaboration with Julio Wallovits, El Sindicato, a highly creative firm based in Barcelona, which reinvented the advertising market. There, in addition to working for clients such as Telefónica, El Corte Inglés, Audi, “la Caixa,” Coca-Cola, Adidas BV, Planeta, the Cuban tourism bureau, the Open Bank, and the Ajuntament de Barcelona, and to winning the Grand Prix of the Festival de Cine Publicitario de San Sebastián for a third time, he created his own products, such as the internet site hoymesiento.com and the feature film Smoking Room, which won a Goya as Best First Work.
A practicing lawyer in Barcelona since 1980, currently at his own law firm, Enrich Advocats, which deals mainly in general commercial law and entertainment law, with a focus on intellectual property and rights to images, subjects about which Enric also writes and teaches. The firm represents both Spanish and international clients in various sectors of the cultural and entertainment industries, including audiovisual, music, publishing, design, photography, sports, and media, in all cases related to negotiation, drafting of contracts, and dispute resolution. Enric is the legal counsel of Photographic Social Vision and provides consulting to the partners on issues of contracts and copyright infraction.
The author of several publications on commercial law, international law, and copyright law, Enric teaches intellectual property and image copyright in the postgraduate programs of various law and cinema schools. He currently gives classes in the master’s program of Global Entertainment and Music Business de Berklee College of Music in Valencia and in the postgraduate program of music industry business administration at the UPF-IDEC, as well as different master’s programs of the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Barcelona. He participates as an expert in the online master’s program in contemporary art of the Universitat de Barcelona. He has been chairman of the Image and Intellectual Property Rights of the Il·lustre Col·legi de l’Advocacia de Barcelona (ICAB), and of the Entertainment and Copyright-Intellectual Property Committee of the International Bar Association.
An arbitrator of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and of the Independent Film & Television Alliance (IFTA, formerly AFMA) and a member of the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL) and of the Asociación Literaria y Artística para la Defensa del Derecho de Autor (ALADDA), the Spanish section of the Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI), Enric is also a legal translator from English and uses Spanish, Catalan, English, French, and Italian in his work.
Currently adjunct director of the Fundació Banc Sabadell, with more than ten years of experience in the management of nonprofit organizations and five years of experience in talent management with technology entrepreneurs. Sonia was formerly the director of the Fundación INLEA (the social responsibility division of INLEA Corporation) and adjunct manager at the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB).
Member of the board and investor of Offemily.com, member of the board of Nidmi.es, cofounder of the Asociación Empren.eu, member of the executive committee of the Fundació Catalunya Cultura, member of the board of Fundación Fila Cero, member of the board of Fundación Iniciador, mentor and member of impact women at the Fundación Ship2be, member of the San Francisco-Barcelona Sister City Committee.
A graduate in psychology from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, she has also studied accounting, financial, and human resources management at the EADA Business School.
Expert in communication, brand and public relations, with 20 years of experience in social and cultural organizations in Spain, France and Colombia. During the last 4 years he has been a member of the Board of Directors of Oxfam Intermón, and has directed communication, fundraising, and fair trade, also promoting the digital transformation of the foundation.
Graduated in Journalism (Universidad Javeriana) with a Master in Political Science (Université Paris IX- Dauphine), she has also trained in management and leadership (Advanced Management Program, ESADE).
He has led numerous, diverse and multidisciplinary teams in complex communication, marketing and change management projects, always seeking the balance between achieving results and people’s well-being.
